French gardens on Monty Don’s final programme majored on artistic gardens. In Provence Nicole de Vesian’s stunning garden La Louve at Bonnieux combines both her contemporary design style with the Provencal landscape of lavender and cherries. Cherry time at the end of May is when we visit Provence and La Louve in the Luberon.
One of our most inspiring French gardens is in Normandy, Sylvie and Patrick Guibel’s Le Jardin Plume. Contemporary, ephemeral and beautifully planted with structure and movement. Our visit is in early September, an excellent time to admire the colours and shapes of an artistic garden developed over the past twenty years. Their nursery is enticing.
Monty Don showed the ‘mur vegetal’ created by Patrick Blanc on the Quai Branly in Paris just near the Eiffel Tower, a living wall densely planted and thriving. Just next to the Gilles Clement gardens of the Musée Branly visited in September with French Gardens Today on a short-break based in Paris which includes a private visit to Chateau de Courances.
